Language barrier in the workplace is a common issue. It’s possible if we choose right approach and     language to overcome from miscommunication.

 

Usage of simple language: Using simple and clear language helps to the employers to understand the business proceedings easily. Usage of simple language helps to avoid cultural misunderstanding.

 

Giving cross-cultural Language Training: Now a day’s corporate sector becomes increasingly globalized. Giving cross-cultural language training to the employees can enhance skills and knowledge to communicate and collaborate with global  representatives.

 

Discuss Cultural Differences: In workplace small issues may create major misunderstanding or conflict between the people. Conduct seminar or workshop to the employees to discuss about cultural differences.

 

Hire a Translator or an Interpreter: Hiring a professional translator can help to clear up mistakes              and miscommunication among different individuals.         It is very difficult task for maintaining effective communication       in a situation of prevailing dominant sub- cultures.

 

Remind Employees to Be Respectful: There is a saying, ‘‘Treat others the way you wish to be treated’’ If you wish to be respected it is important that you also give respect to others.

 

Encourage Employees to Explore the Other Culture: Encourage employees to learn other culture, expression, dialect and idioms.   It helps the employees to grow professionally and personally. Even employees find happiness in learning different cultures.

 

Be aware of sign / Gestures: Before entering the workplace, we should be cautious of the               gestures we are using to others.  Educate employees with the different usage of gestures in different places. Many of us don’t think before we make gestures with our hands, but this can lead to serious hurt, feelings and anger
